Kakuro

For those of you that enjoy Sudoku, I've found the next challenge: Kakuro. I've seen the puzzles in the last several issues of my Games magazine, but I never tried to solve one until this past weekend. It was a pretty good mental workout. If anyone is interested, I'll post some hints on things I figured out in working them over the weekend.

Doggone Kids

Here's another one for you! I know they aren't all that difficult, but at least it will keep you thinking daily. I don't want your grey matter to get too mushy and start leaking out your ears!

Farmer Jones was complaining to officer Luke Sharp about four boys from town who had trespassed on his land and let their dogs run loose among his chickens. "The collie and the pug did the damage that the boys' folks ought to pay for," said the farmer. "But the dogs weren't on leashes, and the boys ran away when they saw me coming, so I don't know which dog belonged to which boy."
"What about the other dogs?" asked Officer Sharp.
"There was a boxer and an Irish setter," said the farmer. "Two of my workmen saw the boys before. They nicknamed 'em Red, Scruffy, Shorty and Curly. They said they saw Shorty and Red out with the boxer and the pug one time. And later they saw Scruffy and Curly with the Collie and the Irish setter. They once saw the collie and the pug with Curly and Shorty, too."
"That information," said Officer Sharp, "is enough to tell me which dog belongs to which boy. Come into town tomorrow and we'll go over to the high school. If you can point out th eboys, I'll question the two whose dogs did the damage."
Which dog belonged to which boy?

Three's Company at the Greasy Spoon

Ok, so this is going to be an EASY one, but hey at least I am posting something! Let me know when you figure it out...which should be very quickly!

Inspector Donna DiAnsa and police informer Stu Pidgeon sat together at a table in the Greasy Spoon Diner. Across the room, three men sat, talking.
"You say those three are known as Slick, Smiley and Mug," said the Inspector, taking out her notebook, "but which is which, Stu? My guess is that the one smoking the cigar is Smiley, the one wearing the hat is Slick, and the one with the mustache is Mug."
"Wrong. All wrong," said Stu.
Just then, the one with the mustache got up from the table. "It's time we took off, Slick," he said. The two got up and all three left, without another word.
"Take another guess," said Stu. "Which one is which?"
"I don't need to guess," Donna DiAnsa said, putting her notebook away, and she correctly named the three men. "Your telling me I guessed all wrong--and those few words from the one with the mustache--was all I needed to put the right labels on them."
Can you correctly label the three men?
